3 in 30 Week 1 Update

It is time for my first weekly checkin for the month of January and my Finish Year goals.

So far so good.

The kids went back to school but SkipperClan himself is taking some time off work. This means our schedule is still in a bit of flux which makes it harder for me to accomplish all the things I have on the to do list. Of course, I get to hang out more with my husband, so it’s pretty much win-win.

Improve the blog.
This week I did complete the first seven steps in 31 Days to Build a Better Blog. I wrote a list post, setup the blog for mobile viewing, and interacted with more readers. Check.

I struggled working on my photography challenge on a daily basis. The weather is pretty gloomy here in the Pacific Northwest in January which means I don’t always have great lighting when I want to take a photo. The more I read, the more I see photographers I admire using other techniques to overcome lighting challenges without using a flash. Flash photos here almost always result in a photo I do not like. After a little make-up session, here’s what I have to share.

Maximize my mornings.
I started six of the seven days with my daily Bible reading, worship music and some form of exercise. Saturday was the first day I missed the mark because I forgot my alarm was only set for weekdays, oops! I definitely thing it is easier to stick to this routine if I get up at the same time every day, even on weekends. I sure did like getting the extra couple of hours of sleep though! This discipline will become even more important now that I will have at least 45 minutes of reading and preparation per day for the class I’ll be teaching for the next few months.

Create something.
Zero progress on this front. My intention is to create something that can be used for Christmas gift giving and right now the only thing I can think about is the table in my garage waiting for its makeover. I plan to issue a challenge this coming week on the blog then have our linkup on the 25th. I will also finalize my project choice in the coming week. Maybe something from my Pinterest-I-Want-To-Do Board.

How about you? Any goals for 2012 or the month you’ve made progress in this week? Any ideas for creative gifts?

Great work on your blog. Pacific Northwest? I got so excited when I read that. I am from Tacoma and live in Yelm, Washington. Where are you from?

You will have to check out my pintererst board too! I have one in my post:

Ruth, as you can tell, I am catching up on blog responses today :) Thanks so much for your encouragement. We do live nearby, maybe one of these days we can meetup somewhere like Panera for a bit. I’m originally from Florida but we’ve traveled all over. I’m headed to your pinterest board next!

I’m making good progress toward our goal of being debt free this year. I also got a lot done toward reorganizing the house. I think that a calendar with photos you take during the months might be a good homemade gift:)

Love hearing about others working towards debt free status. It can seem so challenging to achieve. I am definitely starting with a photo project first. Funny you mentioned the calendar because my dad just told me that he’s keeping the one I made for him for 2011 because he loves the photos so much. I think he deserves an actual album so he isn’t pulling out an old calendar at work to show off his grandkids!

I managed to get Hannah’s scrapbook into an actual scrapbook and ordered the rest of the prints to finish it off. I also loaded all the prints for her second album. When I have her first completely done I will feel a big sigh of relief. I’ve come to realize that traditional scrapbooking is not worth the guilt/frustration/time/effort. From here on out I will be more practical in my goals of memory restoration and that it will all be digital.

  4. I’m still working on my goals for the year. I think I have too many and need to figure out a way to narrow them down and organize them. I own 2 of the books in your stack up there, by the way – and have gotten a third out from the library. Looks like we have some things in common. :-)

I love finding another blogger who seems to ‘get me.’ I just looked over your last couple posts since the one on tips to finish what you start. My next personal area to fine-tune is meal planning. I do it, but I want it to be simplified. We had spices that were multiplying like yours before this last move, I love how you separated them by sweet, savory, etc. Great job! Thanks for stopping by the blog, I hope you’ll join me on Facebook so we can stay connected there, especially since we share a love for similar reading.

  5. It sounds like you are headed in the right direction! Checking out your pinterest board now.

    • Tammy says:

thanks for stopping by and leaving some encouragement! Looks like you have your own set of 3 in 30 challenges, hoping you have great success with them.

  6. Deanna says:

Looks like you ar emaking great progress on your goals! I love the picture of the leaves with the flower budding.

Thank you so much for stopping by the blog and I’m glad you enjoyed the photo. That is next to my porch which is covered with snow as of today. It’s amazing how quickly our weather can change. I saw you are working on photo organization. I have everything organized up to six years ago. It is going to become a higher priority to get those items taken care of soon because it’s taking up too much space in my desk. Once an area’s disorganization impacts another area, I know it’s time to tackle it once and for all.

  7. Lynn says:

I love your first goal on blogging. I recently heard about the book you are working through. I am also a photographer at heart. Love to take pictures and the weather has got me down as well.. Look forward to reading your posts this month. I am also doing the 3 in 30 challenge!

    • Tammy says:

I just updated my 3 in 30 Week 2 update and my Creative Giving Challenge, and I love your goals of being more diligent with your time and being involved in Bible study. I love Ephesians! Enjoy the study and I pray God continues to bless your time.
