My husband is active duty USAF and is currently deployed. Our favorite way to keep in touch is through Skype. Fortunately he has a stable enough internet connection that we are frequently able to do video chats in addition to the more common voice chats.

Hmm I find email is best cause I can then talk anytime I want to .. and I like to talk. He’s usually tired and has nothing to say so its best I say it all in an email usually. I think this is an awesome idea.
