Go With The Flow

I read that an ancient Roman was the first attributed with the phrase, “go with the flow.”

Some days it’s easier said than done.

Is my life journey best compared to the movement of hydrogen and oxygen molecules? My birth and childhood would be like a mountain spring. The journey refreshed with each new person and opportunity. The challenges are the stones that form the riverbed.   As I transitioned to adult life, my little creek joined with others to form a new river. We picked up speed and overcame challenging currents.

But some days I feel frozen, broken, about to tumble over the edge.

Disappointment in circumstances and people leaves me toppled and confused. What looked like a wide open path took a sudden turn. I have to evaluate where I am headed and where I’m leading others. I know there are rough waters…

I just want to make sure I’m going the direction He wants, that I haven’t steered into the muddy waters.

I have confidence He is with me. My family is like a safe harbor and sturdy vessel in which to continue the adventure. These may be uncharted waters, but they are not unknown to my Guide. I may feel the landscape pressing in from all directions…

But He’s given me a compass, a guide.

I lean on these verses and pray them for our future, for this journey.

  1. Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
  2. Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
  3. Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations
  4. Psalm 105:4 Seek the LORD and His strength; SeekHis face evermore!
  5. Luke 17:33Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.
  6. James 1:5If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
  7. Philippians 4:7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
  8. Psalm 32:10 Many are the woes of the wicked, but the LORD’s unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in him.
  9. Psalm 86:11 Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.
  10. John 3:16For God so loved the world {me, you!}, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

How do you stay the course when life threatens to wash over you?
